Have You Stayed Too Long?

Deuteronomy 1:6-8 NRSV

[6] The LORD our God spoke to us at Horeb, saying, "You have stayed long enough at this mountain. [7] Resume your journey, and go into the hill country... [8] See, I have set the land before you; go in and take possession of the land that I swore to your ancestors, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to them and to their descendants after them."

Inspiration has always been in large part due to the refusal to remain in a place that no longer seems to fit your destiny or no longer aligns itself with your future. It grows out of that place where you are no longer driven or challenged to develop your potential or grow into your God-given purpose. In large part your inspiration/motivation grows out of a response to exit a less than desirable situation.

In this text God is saying to Israel, you have stayed too long. You have stayed in “this” place too long. A place that is no longer suitable for your future, your family nor for your God-given ability.

Have you stayed too long? Have you outlived your purpose in anyplace? Have you settled for good enough and not challenged yourself to enter into God’s best? Have you stayed too long?
